Job Summary:
The Powder Coating Technician is responsible for preparing and applying powder coatings to metal and other surfaces to ensure a smooth, durable, and high-quality finish. This position requires a detail-oriented individual who can operate coating equipment, follow safety guidelines, and maintain a clean and organized work environment. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of powder coating processes, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Surface Preparation: Prepare and clean surfaces by sandblasting, grinding, or chemical cleaning before applying the powder coating.
- Powder Coating Application: Apply powder coating to various products using electrostatic spray guns and other coating equipment.
- Quality Control: Inspect coated surfaces for quality, ensuring the coating is uniform and free of defects. Perform touch-ups as needed.
- Curing Process: Operate and monitor curing ovens to ensure coatings are properly cured and meet specifications.
- Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and clean powder coating equipment, including spray guns, ovens, and air compressors, to ensure optimal performance.
- Safety and Compliance: Follow all safety guidelines, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and the safe handling of chemicals and materials. Adhere to environmental regulations.
- Inventory Management: Monitor powder coating materials and supply levels, and report when inventory is low. Assist in ordering materials as necessary.
- Documentation: Record production data, including job numbers, batch information, and any issues encountered during the coating process.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other team members, supervisors, and quality control personnel to ensure production timelines and quality standards are met.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Experience in powder coating or a related field.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certifications in coating processes or related fields preferred.
- Skills:
- Automotive knowledge and technical skills.
- Knowledge of powder coating techniques and equipment.
- Ability to work with various materials, including metals and plastics.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems related to coating processes.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work well with others.
- Familiarity with safety procedures and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 60 pounds.
- Ability to stand, bend, and move for long periods.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with varying temperatures and potential exposure to fumes or dust.
- Strong manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for precision tasks.
Working Conditions:
- Work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to industrial equipment, powders, and chemicals.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours or shifts if needed.
